I think that the community experience that you get in the burbs is really dependent upon what type of community you live in.  Suburbs do not all share the same sociological qualities and can't be generated.  Some are gated communities where there is the potential for a high level of acceptance once you've become an estabished member and then there are other communities where there are quite the opposite.  Of course there are always soft ball leagues one can join too.

I live in the suburbs, and I agree with Brian, I think. They get a bum rap. There's too much elite disdain for the part of America where most of America lives. Don't get me wrong, I like the city just fine. But as a place to visit only. Give me my backyard where I can set up a Slip N Slide on a hot summer's day or drink a tall Corona on the grass. Can't do that in the city.
